Book Review - Crunchy Cons

Well, I finished Crunchy Cons. I especially enjoyed the chapters on food and education.

These statements struck a chord with me....

How long do you think we can keep living as we do, destroying country life, rural traditions, and the countryside to produce mountains of processed food that makes us less healthy.....

Homeschooling forces you to see your home as a place where more than just consumption takes place. It leads you back to the traditional view of the home as a place where something was produced. It keeps you from seeing home as just a place where you sleep and eat before you go out into the rest of the world to do the really important things.....

"...As far as Joel is concerned, too many religious conservatives separate church from life. That is, they think all that's required to get to heaven is to hold correct doctrine. Joel says that religious truth should illuminate and inform every aspect of a believer's life..."

The chapter on consumerism was not as interesting and the chapter on religion was iffy in my opinion. It was still an interesting read....if nothing else, it will make you think before you eat another hot dog!!
I hope I'm not infringing on copyright laws by typing these statements. I give full credit to the author, Rod Dreher.
